Storyline/Synopsis: In the world of ordinary people, a man Dave (Eddie Murphy) comes out safely after a fatal accident when a celestial body hits the central park in New York straight from the space. The man is a spaceship in reality which is operated by many tiny aliens and they are here to save their planet. The story is full of hilarious twists and takes another exhilarating turn when the captain falls in love with a woman from Earth. The lady herself has a horrible past of stupid boyfriends and Dave is Super Special in making things further complicated. Can he be able to match up the expectations of his beloved? What would happen to the mission of the Spacecraft? What would be the future of the Love Story of an Earthly woman and the space ship operated by 100 small sized aliens? Strengths: I personally believed that audiences just love Eddie Murphy’s style of movies, whatever the critics say against it. The story is full of full gags and Eddie Murphy looks endearing as well as promising and does exactly what he is best known for. As Dave he would be surely charm you with his antics. As soon as the Movie started, I also stated to do what a critic should do. But sooner I realized that I am wasting my time in finding faults in an Eddie Murphy’s movie. I decided to forget about my job of a critic for sometime and just watched it. I realized that the man is a legend and keep coming back to amuse us. As usual, his acting is the best in the movie. All the other actors have delivered decent performances but Gabrielle Union and Ed Helms are simply superb. Another plus point of the movie is that that it made my wife laugh, which is not an easy thing to do. Yes it is funny.
Flaws: No doubt the story is full of gags but the gags are not hilarious as such. (Hey don’t doubt the mental health of my wife). The direction lacks credibility and surely could be much better. In short, I would say that the movie is worth watching on a DVD and not in a theatre. Do I need to say more?
My ratings for the Movie **1/2 i.e. Two–and-a-half stars out of Five. One star for Eddie Murphy, one star for the unique storyline and another half because it is much better than NorBit.
So I would suggest you to Meet Dave but not in theatres and wait for the DVD. But at the same time I know that the die hard fans of the legend, who keep coming back, (Yes Mr. Murphy), would not wait at all. So, they can meet him at the nearest theatre.
