When the headquarters of the ‘Control’ are attacked and the hidden identities of the agents are exposed then the chief (Alan Arkin) of the department is left with no other option but to promote this desperate and gadget unfriendly agent Maxwell Smart, whose dream is to work alongside his ideal Agent 23 (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), however Maxwell is grouped with Sensuous and Stylishly lethal Agent 99(Anne Hathaway), the only other agent whose identity has not been revealed. Enthusiastic Maxwell with his very little experience and much little smartness, only with some extremely advanced gadgets has to somehow blow up the devastating plans of KAOS head Siegfried (Terence Stamp).

Strengths:
Steve Carell is finally doing what suits him the best. The character of Maxwell has been portrayed by him very decently. He is funny and delivers an exhilarating performance, which is surely his best performance after ‘the 40 year old Virgin’.
The curvaceous Anne Hathaway looks beautiful as the sexy Agent 99 and matches up Carell in her comic timings.
Alan Arkin is also hilarious and Dwayne Johnson is just awesome. The casting director should get a round of applause for casting a perfect star cast.
The Direction is magnificent and the experience of Peter Segal pays off. The Director has successfully brought the best out of the actors.
The visual effects are good and there are some really great stunt scenes in the movie. The gags are hilarious and the ‘Bond-like’ sequences are indeed a treat to watch.
Also do watch out for the fantastically funny cameos by Bill Murray as a lonely Agent 13 and James Cann as the president of the U.S.A.
In short, the movie has a little bit of everything and those who haven’t seen the television series are going to love the Movie.
Flaws:
The famous 1965 TV series made into a movie has some flaws in it as comparison is a part of a critic’s job. So those who have seen the TV would agree with me that Steve Carell is no Don Adams. One feels that something is missing in the movie and as in the movie it ‘missed by that much’. The problem with the movie is that that it has a bit of everything but these bits and pieces are not enough as the audience still crave for more and the inefficient screen play is responsible for that. The screen writers could have done a better job. Till then waiting for the sequel and hope they get smarter next time.
My Ratings for the Movie ***1/2 i.e. Three and a half Stars out of Five, three stars for the fun I had watching the movie and another half for the Fun I would have watching it on the DVD.
